Brabham BT92 (E92)

    Description

At the 2008 Essen Motor Show, Brabham Racing unveiled the BT92 (combining the traditional Brabham racing designation "BT" with the BMW E92 body designation).

It was a project of the entrepreneurs Michael Trick and Stefan Goldsmith, in particular, it was supposed to take the lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife for modified production cars, set in the summer of 2009 by a Dodge Viper ACR in 7 minutes 20 seconds.

All work on the 4.0-litre BMW S65B40 V8 engine was done under a deal with longtime BMW professional engineer Oliver Nowak, whose father was a mentor to Paul Roche, the father of BMW racing engines. The technical lead for the Brabham Racing project was Andreas Heinke, former technical head of Volkswagen Motorsport.

As a result, the BT92 engine was upgraded to racing specifications. Cylinder sizes were 93.3 mm by 80.2 mm versus 92.0 mm by 75.2 mm for the original 4.0-liter V8, giving a displacement of 4.4 liters. The forged crankshaft has been meticulously balanced, the intake and exhaust valves have been enlarged by 0.5mm, the balanced pistons have been given a low friction coating, the intake manifold has been redesigned and a sports exhaust system developed in collaboration between Brabham Racing's Nowack and exhaust experts has been installed. Stüber system. All these improvements gave an increase in power to 508 hp. and 480 Nm of torque.

A 6-speed "mechanics" was offered as a gearbox. The stock M3's factory 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds has been improved to 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the latest GK dual-clutch transmission, which was developed as an option). The maximum speed of the sports car reached 303 kph.

The BT92 was equipped with a new brake system with six-piston front (380mm discs) and four-piston rear (350mm discs) monobloc calipers, fully adjustable suspension and 19-inch forged two-piece wheels with curved carbon spokes and Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires in size 265 /35 R19 front and 315/30 R19 rear.

The body design of the Brabham BT92 is the work of Michael Sengen of TechArt. All body parts were made of carbon fiber, only the headlights, doors and carbon fiber roof remained from the BMW M3. As a result of improvements, the rigidity of the structure was increased, and the weight of only the body was reduced by 50 kg. The weight of the entire car was reduced by 150 kg compared to the regular M3, and amounted to 1505 kg.

The salon received a new seat upholstery and steering wheel with a thick rim.

It was planned to release the BT92 in a limited edition of 50 pieces for a price of about 310,000 US dollars.
