Ferrari FX

    Description

    The Ferrari FX was a unique sports car custom-made by Pininfarina for the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah (29th of the ruling dynasty of Brunei), known for his passion for rare and expensive cars, in his collection there are from 3000 to 7000 cars, of which about half a thousand Ferrari. The order consisted of seven cars (according to other information - nine) based on the Ferrari F512M. The Sultan had a habit of buying cars in bulk, and the cost of designing his personal models was spread over several copies. For example, he bought two Ferrari F90s, six Bentley Grand Prix and three Aston Martin AM4s.

    The cars were developed from scratch, and the unlimited budget allowed for the full use of the creativity of Pininfarina's employees, combined with the latest technology of the time. The car bodies were made of aluminum and precisely fitted to the spatial structures of the 512M. Where possible, carbon fiber was used, from which the engine compartment covers, doors and wheel arches were made, and the rear hood was made of plexiglass. Given the changed rear of the car, the exhaust system was redesigned.

    Once built, the cars went to Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited, where the team fitted them with a 7-speed sequential manual transmission, tuned the chassis and car controls. But suddenly the Sultan closed the project, taking 6 finished copies. Car number 4 (chassis number 103396) in blue was just completed with a box and was unfinished. But Williams completed it and decided to sell it. The buyer was Dick Marconi from the USA. It is this car that is exhibited at the museum in Tustin (California).

    Thanks to a new engine exhaust system, as well as a possible reconfiguration of control systems, power has increased from 440 hp. up to 471 hp Which, in combination with the reduced weight of the car by 275 kg (20%), gave an improvement in dynamic performance.

    The interior, impeccably crafted in leather and suede, focuses on the shift paddles of the sequential shift gearbox behind the Momo steering wheel, very unusual at that time on non-Formula 1 cars. Also of interest are the emergency engine shutdown button, aluminum door handles, a gearshift joystick and a plaque confirming the uniqueness of the car, specially made for the royal family from Brunei.

    All cars were made with the right wheel.
