Peugeot 907 Concept

The Peugeot 907 Concept is a fully functional rear-wheel drive two-seat coupe concept with a carbon fiber body.

The concept was created by chief designer Gérard Welter and designer Jean Christophe Bollet Reddat to celebrate the closing of the firm's 40-year design center in La Garenne and the opening of a new one in Velizy, and was shown to the public at the 2004 Paris Motor Show.

There were speculations about its production, with a possible limited run of 50 units, but the proposal was eventually rejected.

Engine

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated V12 (internal code ES2) with a displacement of 5.9 liters, created from two 2.9-liter V6 (ES9) engines from the Peugeot 607 by Peugeot minders. The performance of the unit was declared at the level of 500 hp.

The engine grew longitudinally behind the front axle, combining a carburetor with a given shaft, and sent power to a six-speed sequential gearbox located longitudinally in front of the rear axle to improve weight distribution.

Due to the use of carbon fiber, the coupe weighed only 1400 kg. Acceleration from 0-100 kph was only 4 seconds, and the maximum speed reached 357 kph.

Exterior

The monocoque of the supercar was made of carbon fiber, to which an independent double wishbone suspension was attached, comparable to that typical for racing cars.

The body of the car was painted molybdenum grey. The curved windshield smoothly passed into the roof, the front fenders and the array of rear pillars adorn the “gills”, and behind the wheel arches, two exhaust pipes peek out from under the thresholds on each side. The bonnet has a transparent plexiglass insert, through which the twelve twelve-pipe engine pipes in the style of American hot rods are closed. A spoiler was built into the trunk lid, which automatically extends at higher speeds.

Interior

The interior and seats were used brown leather and light gray Alcantara. The steering wheel and shift knob had authentic wood inserts. The dashboard of the prototype was analog, in the center console there was a touch screen multimedia system with built-in navigation and the ability to read MP3 files, which was a revolutionary solution for that time. In the luggage compartment was a set of leather suitcases specially designed for the concept.
