Alpina B12 5.7 (E31)
Description
The Alpina B12 5.7 was introduced in 1992 and was based on the production BMW 850CSi (E31 body).
The number of produced Alpina B12 5.7 from November 1992 to December 1996 amounted to 57 units (for reference: BMW 850CSi was produced – 1510 copies).
Mechanics
The B12 5.7 model used the Alpina D2 engine, which was a boosted 5.7-liter BMW S70B56 V12 engine with up to 416 hp. With. and torque of 570 N∙m.
This engine received a modified air intake, a Bosch Motronic M1.7 injection system with a reprogrammed engine control unit, with manually turned valves. The crankshaft was also modified and Schrick camshafts and Mahle forged pistons were installed, while the piston stroke was increased to 81 mm. The exhaust system was designed by Alpina with stainless steel catalytic converters.
The gearbox was a 6-speed manual gearbox manufactured by Getrag. However, an electronic clutch system called Shift-Tronic by the manufacturer was optional. The system was developed in collaboration with LUK GS and the B12 5.7 was the only Alpina model offered with this system. 32 cars were equipped with the Shift-Tronic system and were badged "Shift-Tronic" on the rear in addition to the normal badging.
Exterior
External changes are very minor compared to the BMW 850CSi. A unique carbon fiber hood with engine cooling vents and a NACA center duct was fitted, along with original Alpina Classic alloy wheels.
Interior
Anthracite leather with blue contrast stitching was used for the interior, along with wood-trimmed instrument panel and wood shift knob.
It is worth noting that the base car BMW 850CSi already had electric seats with memory, an electric steering wheel for reach and tilt. And also, for the first time, solutions such as CAN-bus, electronically controlled cable-free throttle assembly, ASC + T – an automatic stability and traction control system that monitors lateral displacements and controls the brakes, and an active steering rear suspension AHK (Aktive Hinterachs-Kinematik ) with electrohydraulic drive.
