    Description

    The Lotec Colani Testa D'Oro Record Car is the result of a 1984 Ferrari Testarossa modified by Kurt Latterschmidt (Lotec) and designer Luigi Colani, known for his unusual aerodynamic trucks and cars.

    Their collaboration is reflected in the name of the supercar - "Lotec Colani". "Testa D'Oro" means "golden head" in Italian, similar to the name Ferrari Testarossa, where "Testarossa" means "red head" in Italian. The Ferrari had red-painted valve covers of the 12-cylinder boxer engine, the Testa D'Oro had gold-plated ones.

    The goal of the supercar designers was to set a new world speed record for cars. During tests on the salt lakes of the United States, the pilot almost died: the front axle of the car began to rise with the oncoming air flow, and the pilot, having secured himself, threw out the braking parachute. But still, the team managed to set a record and achieve a result of 351 kph. The unique supercar has received the status of the fastest car with a catalytic converter.

    To improve performance, the Ferrari F113 engine was equipped with two Garrett T4 turbochargers with a pressure of 1.25 bar and a liquid intercooler, as a result of which the power of the Italian engine jumped to almost 1000 hp.

    According to information from some sources: according to the requirements of customers, 4 more Testa D'Oro copies were produced with derated up to 750 hp. engine and richer leather and titanium trim. For such a car, it was necessary to lay out 980,000 German marks.
